We get it – Planning for a new roof can be overwhelming. That’s why we’ve created this walk-through of things you need to know before the project gets started.
How do you know if you need a new roof?
Whether you’re a new home owner, or have lived in your home for years, knowing the warning signs of a failing roof can protect your wallet and your most valued asset: your home.
Here’s what to look out for:
Leaks in your attic
After a storm, look in your attic to see if there are any leaks. If so, it may be an indicator that some of your shingles are damaged, a problem with the underlayment, or deterioration.
This is a sign of poor ventilation. Moisture can become trapped and cause your home’s exterior paint to peel or bubble.
A tell-tale of leaks or trapped moisture – This can cause stains on your ceiling or walls, or even worse: MOLD.
Missing or deformed shingles
Your shingles at this point have no life left in them and badly need replacing.
A spike in your electricity bill
Trapped moisture can drip down into your home’s insulation, negatively affecting its heat retaining capabilities
Exterior Decay Back to the basics here. Excessive moisture is a contributing factor to decaying roofing and siding.
Warranties: Know what’s covered
A new roof is a huge investment that lasts 25, 30, or 40 years or more, and costs thousands of your hard-earned dollars. Before you start this big project, know the warranty options and coverage. If issues arise with your roof, your warranty could save not only your home but thousands of dollars from leaving your pocket.
