Contrary to mainstream belief, there are many renovation projects that can be done in the winter rather than in the spring/summer/fall.
I don’t know about you, but when the warm weather comes, I have other things on my mind than worrying about home projects. I’d much rather be outdoors, enjoying the rays of sun and fresh air before the long Canadian winters hit, than thinking about what renovation needs to be done, or thinking about people coming in and out of my home working on said project. I’m not much of a snow lover, so I stay inside most of the season binging Netflix. So, if you’re anything like me, you can use this time to do some home improvements.
Here are some ideas to help you figure out what to do:
The kitchen is often called ‘the heart of the home.’ If you have kids in school, now is a great time to spruce up the kitchen the many ways you thought about during those busy-child-filled summers. Just make sure that you have a backup for food and dining if your kitchen is out of commission. Or, if you are planning a vacation to take a break from the snow, you can plan a renovation to be done while you’re away.
As long as you’re not having a foundation dug, a basement is a great project to take on in the winter. It’s inside, below ground and warm. So, go ahead and do whatever you need or want to it: décor, remodeling, painting, etc!
Bathrooms and powder rooms can say a lot about your personality. This would be a great time to re-organize with some new shelving, install some new tile, re-grout old tile, change the faucets, paint, or go all the way with a full reno.
I know, I know… But just hear me out on this. In the summer, you may not know that anything is wrong with your windows. In the winter, you’ll quickly find out if there are any problems. If you find any leaks or drafts, you can identify which windows need replacing and which need repairs.
On another note, you may have more flexibility when it comes to purchasing and installing your windows. Most people opt to have them done when it’s warmer out, which can cause a waiting period. In the winter, you have more options for timing. You don’t have to worry about your home becoming an ice-box either. Our installation team is trained to install properly and efficiently.
These are just a few of the many renovation projects that you can do in the winter. The scope of what you can do is vast! For more information, or to chat with us about an idea you have, give us a call at 847-3202. We’d be happy to go over your renovation ideas with you.
